Randomly updated and mostly about music videos, Florida, and anything involving sequins, spandex, or saxophone solos.
On occasion, I address something of relative importance.

Video with 4 notes

I love Phil Collins, especially when he convinces his proggy and unapologetically milquetoast buddies to loosen up their polo collars and put on wacky disguises. Collins is at his best when he is unabashedly hammy, when he needs his audience to be in on the gag. It is through this need that he (and Genesis) makes an honest connection with the listener. The audience trusts in Collin’s pretense of non-pretense. Watching as Phil croons in the video, one thinks: He’s so goofy and square, so very pint-sized and bald! He’s so cuddly and harmless and means every word he says. Is anybody listening? This poor sap needs an audience for his pleading heart! I’ll be your ear, Phil! And such is the greatness of “No Reply at All”. It’s an honest song about a couple’s problems with communication visually portrayed with a certain amount of levity. Yes, Phil wants to bridge the distance between him and his paramour, but that doesn’t mean he cannot do so while wearing sunglasses and smirking for the camera. We all can afford to get our chinos a little wrinkled and put on a dorky hat—even if our hearts are breaking. It’s probably just some misunderstanding or some kind of mistake anyway.
